About Susan Schanerman
I would describe myself as a Writer, Artist and Creative Catalyst. I'm a mother, mother-in-law and grandmother of the greatest joy in my life, my 8 year old granddaughter Jaylynn.
I painted for the first time only about 20 years ago. Before that I had never done any type of art in my entire life. I never had any training. Then one day, I just picked up a brush and my Creative Spirit started to flow . . .
Whenever I make ART, I know I am being Guided . . . The result is always a colorful expression of feelings . . . Most of the time, they're full of whimsy, playfulness, innocence and joy. But sometimes not.
For many years, I've dealt with the darkness and despondency of depression. That, in combination with post-polio syndrome, often makes daily living a considerable challenge.
Sitting down with markers or paints or whatever, and creating something that is full of color and pleasing to my eye, is the best way to get out of the dark places . . . And the 'child-like' quality of most of my work is definitely the other side of the darkness.
The longer I create ART, the more apparent it is to me that I have a style that is uniquely my own. My deepest desire is that my Creative Expression . . . my heART, as I like to call it, . . . speaks to you and brings with it an experience bursting with Color . . . Whimsy . . . and Joy . . . and in so doing, acts as a reminder of the Beauty, Wonder, Playfulness, Humor, Passion and Magic that is available to each and every one of us . . . if we simply open our eyes . . . our minds . . . and our heARTs . . .
